Briefing[]
Enemy Forces
In August of 1980 a large rebel force has assembled in the the (sic) eastern part of the Badakshan province. The commander of your motorized rifle regiment currently garrisoned in Faizabad and Baharak decided to move on the village of Jurm and destroy the guerilla forces located there. However, a broken bridge hinders his advance, and you are being sent to oversee its repair.
Friendly Forces
You have a motorized rifle platoon on 3 BMP infantry fighting vehicles under your command.
Terrain and Weather
You should expect attacks at nighttime. Nights in Badakshan are cool and often hazy. The northern wind is of medium strength.
Mission
Your platoon is assigned to guard the repair of the bridge across the Kokcha river, on the route from Baharak to Jurm, in order to secure the timely advance of the main force. The bridge is being fixed by the local inhabitants, who refused to stay on the site at night, afraid of the mujahideen attack.
Commander's Intent
The rebels are expected to undertake any possible measures to break your defenses and eliminate the bridge. You must establish the perimeter defense, dig in and prepare for nightly assault. The Jurm rebels are likely to come from the south, on either side of the river.
Basic Plan
The mines set on the possible approaches to the hill and the dug-in BMPs should provide adequate support to withstand an attack.
