T-64BV

T-64BV moving into position in Ukraine, 2017

T-64 is a tank of Soviet origin. First introduced in the early 1960s, it became the basis for more modern Russian tanks like the T-80. It brought many revolutionary designs to the world of tanking, namely autoloader, 125mm gun and the ability to fire ATGM's trough the barrel. T-64B is an upgrade from the older T-64A. It is less known than T-62 or T-72 tank designs. It is used by the Ukrainian armed forces. It appears in the games Combat Mission: Black Sea and Combat Mission: Cold War.

Variants in the game[]

Base game (CMBS):

  • T-64BV: Most numerous MBT in Ukraine's inventory. It has improved protection trough the attachment of Kontakt-1 ERA blocks. It also has smoke launchers and a new 125mm cannon. It also has an improved fire control system, stabilizer and autoloader. It is bottom of the stock in tank hierarchy in Black Sea, but it can still be lethal if handled properly.
  • T-64BM Bulat: Extensive upgrade package to prepare T-64 for the modern battlefield. It has Nozh ERA blocks, composite armor in the front of hull and turret and an automatic fire extinguishing system. It can also fire Kombat ATGM trough the barrel. It also has some of the upgrades that the BM Oplot has, namely commander's sight and night vision system.

Base game (CMCW):

  • T-64A: The T-64A was a firepower upgrade that quickly followed the base model. The new and powerful 125 mm D-81T gun required too much space for ammunition, and as a result a new tank technology was developed: the mechanical autoloader, which replaced the fourth crewmember of the tank.
  • T-64B: The T-64B introduced another important capability that would be carried forward in Soviet tank design. A new gun and fire control system were designed to fire the 9M112 (AT-8 Songster) GLATGM, giving the tank a new ability to attack enemy targets at long ranges.
  • T-64B1: The GLATGM and guidance system were costly additions to the T-64B, and consequently not all T-64Bs received them. The T-64B1 was a T-64B, but lacking the ATGM system and external guidance box.
